Famous American doughnut chain Krispy Kreme now opens its first branch at Bangkok’s Siam Paragon shopping mall, where hundreds of people were standing in the queue to be among the first to try the sweetened fried dough. To make the launch a big success, Krispy Kreme publicized that they’d offer a year’s supply of a dozen free donuts every week to the lucky first customer when they opened on the first daying, subsequently six months of donuts will be offered to the second customer, three months for the third and so on, right up to the 101th-200th customers, who get a dozen free donuts. And people started camping out on the night before the opening day. The queue outside of Siam Paragon leading into the ground-floor shop went on with to grow. In the near future, Krispy Kreme is expecting to witness hundreds of Bangkokians carrying Krispy Kreme boxes on the way home.

Ms. Ausanee Mahagitsiri, CEO of franchisee KDN Company Limited stated that "The Original Glazed doughnut, made fresh daily and served warm, has been available for over 70 years and still sells like hot cakes. The secret recipe has been passed down from generation to generation and today only six people know it,". She also believes that this business will not be another fad that popular on the very beginning and calm on later on. "Imported ingredients are used and the production is according to US FDA standards with quality control as an important part of the production process.

"The reason for the limited production is because ingredients are still on the way. We are trying very hard to ship the ingredients by plane to get them to Bangkok as quickly as we can,” Ausanee says.

The first Krispy Kreme store opening in Bangkok at the Siam Paragon Shopping Center signifies the company’s ambitions on international expansion, which have been significantly stepped-up from its traditional Northern America base since 2004. Krispy Kreme now have stores in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, Dominican Republic, Kuwait, Mexico, Puerto Rico, South Korea, Hong Kong (closed 2008), Indonesia, the Philippines, Japan, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Ethiopia, Bahrain and now Thailand.
